Create a share
A share lets you specify a list of email addresses with whom you want to share trails.
People you share with do not need to already have a Trailence account:
- They will receive an email with a link allowing them to view your share.
- People who already have an account will automatically see your share appear in their "Shared with me" menu.
Selecting trails to share
There are different ways to share trails:
- By selecting a specific list of trails (from a collection list) and using the "Create a share with these trails" menu.
In this case, only the selected trails will be shared; no new trails will appear. However, if you delete some of those trails from your collection, they will also be removed from the share.
If you modify a shared trail, the changes will be visible to people who have access to the share.
- All trails in a collection: you can also share an entire collection via the collection menu "Create a share", then "The whole collection".
In this case, any trail added, modified, or deleted will be reflected in the share. People with access will see the collection as it exists on your account.
- Trails with specific tags: using the collection menu "Create a share", then "Some tags", you can select tags to share.
In this case, any trail in the collection that has one of the selected tags will be visible to people with access to the share.
If you tag a new trail with one of the selected tags, that trail will automatically appear in the share. Similarly, if you remove tags from a trail, it will be removed from the share.
This type of share is useful if, for example, you want to share the trails you did with a person: tag the trails with the person's name and share that tag with them.
How sharing works
People you share trails with can view them but can never modify them.
You can choose whether or not to include photos in the share.
You can add or remove people from a share at any time.
When someone has shared trails with you, you can remove yourself from the share by opening the share menu and clicking "Delete".
In that case the share is removed for you but will still exist for other people.
The number of people in a single share is limited; if you want to share a trail with many people, prefer public links.
